The Lane County Board of Commissioners appointed a new chair and vice chair during the opening minutes of its first regular meeting of 2020.
Commissioner Heather Buch will serve as chair in 2020 and Commissioner Joe Berney will serve as vice chair.
“It is an honor to serve as chair of the Board of County Commissioners,” said Chair Buch. “We have so many important tasks ahead of us in 2020: a Climate Action Plan, increasing housing and creating opportunities for rural residents to thrive. I am thrilled to be able to help lead that work.”
“My hope is, with the entire board, to be transparent and inclusive as we pragmatically incent more money moving into local businesses and the local economy; develop public private partnerships to build more housing making housing more affordable; reimagine empowering our most vulnerable; and quantitatively decrease Lane County’s carbon footprint while creating net new jobs,” said Vice Chair Berney.
Commissioner Pete Sorenson was also recognized for his leadership as chair during 2019 and presented with a ceremonial gavel as a gesture of thanks from his fellow commissioners.
