The Grove was hot and “chili” over the weekend as chili and classic car enthusiasts gathered to feast their eyes on a collection of custom vehicles — and feast their taste buds on some of the area’s best chili.
The event, which took place on Saturday on Main Street in Cottage Grove’s Historic District, drew hundreds to The Grove to help choose the best in several chili contest catagories.
While the Rock, Roll ‘n’ Rumble Car Show saw around 70 cars lining downtown Cottage Grove, vendors and chili stands filled the remainder of Main Street this weekend.
Winner of multiple chili cook-off awards Blazzin’ Saddles took home Judge’s Choice, People’s Choice, Mayor’s Choice and Best Display while South Lane County Fire & Rescue won the Community Spirit Award.
The chili event served as a fundraiser for the Kiwanis of the Coast Fork.
“Kiwanis is very happy with the support from the community. We more than reached our goal,” said Don Gould, past president of Kiwanis. “By reaching our goal, we will ensure that we will have a very good Christmas party.”
Classic cars later cruised the streets as the KNND-hosted event ended with a street dance and music performance by classic rock band Coupe de Ville.
