Concetta Joan Scimeca, a beloved mother, grandmother, and esteemed member of the Cottage Grove community, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2023, in Cottage Grove, Oregon. Born on June 24, 1934, in Los Angeles, California, Concetta's life was marked by her intelligence, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and community.

After graduating from Western State University in San Diego, California, with a Juris Doctor degree, Concetta embarked on a distinguished career as an Attorney at Law. Her keen intellect and dedication to justice made her a respected figure in her profession. Later, she also became a Real Estate Broker, applying the same diligence and integrity that marked her legal career.

Concetta was an active member of Soroptimist International, a global volunteer organization working to improve the lives of women and girls. Her commitment to community service and her passion for empowering women were evident in her tireless work with the organization.

In her personal life, Concetta was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter, creating beautiful pieces for her family and friends. Her love for painting was reflected in the vibrant canvases that adorned her home. A gourmet cook, Concetta's kitchen was a place of warmth and joy, where she loved to gather her family around the table. She was also a devoted parish member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Cottage Grove, Oregon, where her faith played a central role in her life.

Concetta is survived by her son, Craig Phelps and Denise Marsicano of Big Bear, California; daughters, Janet King of Creswell, Oregon, and Carol Bagley of Cottage Grove, Oregon; grandson, CJ Phelps of Las Vegas, Nevada; and granddaughter, Renee King of Eugene, Oregon. She was a source of strength and inspiration for her family, who will remember her for her loving kindness and her unwavering support.

In the words of Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Concetta embodied this sentiment, touching the lives of many with her kindness, her generosity, and her unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.

She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness, her love, and her unwavering belief in the power of community.
