Cottage Grove Hires New Basketball Coach

After Donn Pollard's retirement, Nick Finley will be given the keys to the program

Cottage Grove High School has hired Nick Finley to be the head coach of the boys basketball team.

Finley, who graduated from Creswell High School in 2004 where he won a state championship, most recently coached at Ninilchik High School in Ninilchik, Alaska. He led the team to the 1A basketball State Championship titles in both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.

“We are so excited to get a coach of Nick’s experience and background. He has had success in Alaska competing against schools from all classifications,” said Cottage Grove High School Athletic Director Gary Roberts in a statement on Twitter. “More importantly, his co-workers and players raved about his program culture, ability to work with kids, and skill development of athletes.”

After attending Creswell, Finley went on to play basketball at Chemeketa Community College and then at Eastern Oregon University.

Finley will be taking over the team after Donn Pollard retired from coaching at the end of last season.
