Cottage Grove man charged with sexual abuse

David McCutcheon confessed to sexually assaulting the victim over a period of years

On Thursday, May 28, Cottage Grove Police detectives received information about a case that was originally reported to the Eugene Police Department on May 26.

However, after the EPD’s initial investigation was complete, the case was then referred to the CGPD after determining the crime(s) had taken place within Cottage Grove city limits.

According to police, the case involved a female juvenile who had reported being sexually assaulted by David McCutcheon, who had been abusing her for a number of years dating back to when she was approximately 6 years old.

CGPD detective Jason Cross contacted McCutcheon on June 8, eventually interviewing him on two separate occasions, including June 8 and 9.

It was during the second interview on June 9 that McCutcheon confessed to a sexual relationship with the victim.

He was taken into custody that same afternoon and was booked into the Lane County Jail on charges of Rape 1 (x70), Sodomy 1 and Criminal Mistreatment 1 (x110).

The case has since been referred to the Lane County District Attorney’s office for prosecution.
