David "Pop" Macauley
David "Pop" Macauley passed away on December 8, 2022.
David "Pop" Macauley peacefully passed on to be with Jesus on Dec 8, 2022. He was born to John & Jimmie (Preuit) Macauley in Eugene, Oregon in 1933. He then grew up on the family farm on Turkey Run, near Cottage Grove. He was baptized into Christ in Creswell at the old Church of Christ in the late 1940s. He graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1952.
Dave started out logging with a crosscut saw and draft horses owned by his dad. He first put his hands on a chainsaw in June of 1952, shortly after graduating, and continued in the logging industry until and after retirement. Into his 80's he enjoyed cutting and delivering fire wood to the "old folks" and widows. As a timber faller, Dave even spent a couple of years in the 1960s in Northern California cutting the big redwood timber. In 1958 he married the love of his life Delores (Kringen) Macauley. They had 6 children, Steven (Arlene) Douglas, Susan (Preston Nydam), Kathy (Dan Holt), Laryn (Kimberly) and Laura (Dan Hemenway). Delores preceded him in death in 1980 leaving the 6 kids ranging in ages from 3 to 19 yrs old. Dave never remarried. If you asked him about his hobbies, for many years he would say "chasing kids".
Pop liked to travel, especially to Alaska. He really looked forward to his high school class reunions. He also liked to read. He liked to tell stories and had an unusually good memory for names and dates. Dave loved history, especially Oregon pioneer and family heritage that he had learned from reading and the "old timers".
ANYWAY...He also liked to eat... at restaurants and potlucks and at home or visiting, inside or outside...mostly just on the days that end with "Y".
Dave was a dedicated Christian. He was very influential in the founding of Delight Valley Church of Christ, near Cottage Grove.
Pop loved all of his 19 grandkids and could tell you each of their birthdates and year they were born. He was also the very proud grandpa to his 4 great-grand kids.
Dave was preceded in death by: his brothers - John, Ben, and Paul Macauley, his sister - Anna Farnsworth, and "most of his friends" - including, good friend Ray Sloan.
He is survived by 2 brothers: Edward and Bill (Willie) Macauley, and the Holbrook "Boys". Arrangements in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.
A service will be held at Delight Valley Church of Christ in Cottage Grove, OR on December 31, 2022 at 2:00pm.
