“Discover Exoplanets: the Search for Alien Worlds”

a national traveling exhibition

Discover Exoplanets: The Search for Alien Worlds is a national traveling exhibition exploring the fascinating world of space and astronomy. Discover Exoplanets covers topics such as the search for habitable worlds beyond our Solar System, how NASA scientists are searching for these worlds, and how they may be like our own. Two different versions of the exhibit will be on display at the Cottage Grove Public Library and the Eugene Science Center from January 30th to April 20th, 2019.

Getting people interested in science can be a challenge, but Discover Exoplanets strives to make it fun with hands-on, multimedia activities where visitors can build their own solar systems, see the most recent NASA discoveries, and learn about whether popular TV and movies feature “Science Fact or Science Fiction.” A unique aspect of this program is that the Cottage Grove Public Library and the Eugene Science Center are working in collaboration and partnership to bring this amazing exhibit to our communities, and different versions of the exhibit will be on display at each venue during the same time period.  Both venues will offer a diverse suite of public events and programs to bring STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) programming to children, teens and adults.

“We are proud that the Cottage Grove Public Library and the Eugene Science Center were selected to be one of seven sites nationwide to host the Discover Exoplanets exhibit,” said Pete Barrell, City of Cottage Grove Library Services Director. “We have partnered with the Eugene Science Center to help bring this important exhibition to our communities. We think people of all ages and backgrounds will find that the exhibition explores the universe, and our place in it, in a way that is understandable, inspirational, and relevant.”

The Cottage Grove Public Library is located at 700 Gibbs Avenue, Cottage Grove, Oregon.

The Eugene Science Center is located at 2300 Leo Harris Parkway, Eugene, Oregon

The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of programs and events, including the Grand Opening/STAR PARTY at the Cottage Grove Public Library on Saturday February 2, 6-10 PM. Please visit each venues website for program and event details and schedules.
