Elkton falls to Jewell in final game

Elkton hosted Jewell last Friday for the first round of six-man playoffs and came up just short of the victory as the Elks fell 27-19 to the Blue Jays.

“They (Jewell) definitely did a good job of sealing the edge so we didn’t really run outside,” said Elkton coach Jeremy Lockhart. “So our running game got completely shut down by Jewell in the second half, so that's really what put us behind the eight ball.”

After being up 19-13 at halftime for Elkton, Jewell’s offense started to get rolling as the Blue Jays scored two touchdowns and a safety in the second half.

The future is still very bright for Elkton as they only lose two seniors and should be returning all of their key contributors.

“We just didn't know what to really expect but this year was definitely a success,” said Lockhart. “I think this ceiling is pretty high for us next year,” Lockhart added. “The expectations for us next year are going to be a lot different than this year.”

Following the conclusion of the weekend games, coaches voted for all league players and Elkton had players named to each team.
