Eugene man arrested for homicide of grandmother

On April 5, at 9:53 p.m., the Lane County Sheriff’s Office Creswell Contract deputies and patrol deputies responded to the 82800 block of Brookhurst Street in Creswell for a report of a possible assault. The victim, 87-year-old Sally Baldwin of Creswell, was transported to the hospital with significant injuries.

Lane County Sheriff’s Office detectives were assigned to investigate the assault. Preliminary investigation identified Sally Baldwin’s grandson, 44-year-old James Lynn Holt of Eugene, as a person of interest in the case.

On April 9, Holt was located, interviewed and subsequently arrested on an unrelated warrant.  Holt has been in custody since the April 9, arrest as the investigation into Baldwin’s assault continued.

On April 21, Baldwin passed away at the hospital. The Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office determined her death was caused by complications of immobilization due to multiple blunt force injuries as a result of the assault, and has determined the manner of death to be homicide.

On May 6, detectives submitted paperwork to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office in support of charging Holt with Murder, Robbery in the First Degree and Burglary in the First Degree.

The case has been referred to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.  Inquiries regarding this case should be directed to the District Attorney’s Office.
