Herald Gilmore Callison

Herald Gilmore Callison passed away July 29th, 2022.

Herald Gilmore Callison, 91, of Cottage Grove passed away peacefully at home on June 29, 2022. Herald was born August 12, 1930 in Santa Rosa, California to Herald and Eva (Converse) Callison.

Herald graduated High School in Santa Rosa and junior college and started at the University of CA Berkeley where he graduated in 1952 receiving a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Right after graduating Herald started at the Multnomah University School of the Bible where he completed his Bachelor of Theology degree (ThB) in 1956.

Herald started out his career as a teenager working for his dad at Callison & Callison Electric and later becoming an Electrical Engineer for ESI from 1954 to 1956. And then he worked at Freightliner from 1965-1970, the campus electrician for Multnomah School of the Bible from 1970 to 1972, Wagner Mining Equipment from 1972-2982, Kudos Co. from 1982 to 1983, Kimwood from 1984 to 1995. Herald lived in the Portland area from 1953 until 1984 when he moved to Cottage Grove and started working for Kimwood.

Herald married Grace Rosalee Schmidt on June 26, 1953, in Los Angeles, California and together they had 3 children Kathryn, Douglas and Melvin. Rosalee passed away in May 2013. Herald met Shirley Ann McDaniel and they later married on July 8, 2017.

Herald was always actively involved in church activities and held leadership positions in the churches he attended. He enjoyed playing the piano and organ, tinkering with cars and restoring his 1952 Chevy pickup. When Herald moved to Cottage Grove in 1984, he finally realized his dream of living in the country. He was always busy fixing this or that and taking care of his house. Herald was always ‘on call’ to help folks with their electrical problems. Herald was a proud member of the Organ Club in Cottage Grove, OR and also being a member of the Cottage Grove Bible Church.

Herald Gilmore Callison is survived by his wife Shirley Ann Callison of Cottage Grove, OR; daughter Kathryn (Kate) Howard of Cottage Grove, OR; son Douglas (Laurie) Callison of Winchester, CA; son Melvin (Cindy) Callison of Upland, IN; grandchildren Brandon (Suzanne) Talbott of Madras, OR; Brett (Kathy) Talbott of Dayton, OR; Parker Callison of Winchester, CA; Zane Callison of Upland, IN; and 3 great-grandchildren Dustin, Conner and Morgan. Herald is preceded in death by wife Grace Rosalee Callison, brother Fred Callison and sister Ruth Stoker.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Cottage Grove Bible Church in Cottage Grove, OR. A private inurnment will be held at Fir Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Oregon Right to Life in honor of Herald Gilmore Callison. Arrangements in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.
