Herbert Jay Coon

Herbert Jay Coon, 89, of Cottage Grove, OR passed away on May 7, 2019. He was born May 19, 1929 in Lake City, MI to parents James and Pearl (Wiggins) Coon. He served in the US Army at the end of World War II and the Korean War, earning the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. Herb retired from Pacific Power and Light as a district foreman, was a 70-year member of the International Brotherhood of the Electrical Worker and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He and Phillis Palmerton were married in Lake City, MI in the Methodist Church on January 15th, 1949. Herbert enjoyed the outdoors with camping, hunting, and trips to the coast. He liked country and western music and, in his younger years, square dancing. He was an avid reader and loved western and history books. Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 70 years and lifelong companion, Phillis; daughter Sandi and Mike Carnahan; daughter Connie & and Terry Pershall; daughter Gloria & Richard Densmore; all of Cottage Grove; son Chris & Shari Coon of Salem, OR, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter, Jackie Erikson and 11 siblings. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on May17th, 2019 at the Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, 123 S 7th, Cottage Grove, OR.
