High school sports recap 10.11


A look back at the busy week of high school sports in the area

Cottage Grove Boys Soccer (7-0-1)

Last Thursday, the Lions travelled to Sisters where they beat the Outlaws 2-0. Jasper Nichols-Ferguson scored a goal from 30 yards out and Rodas Martin had a break away that he was able to put away for a goal. The Lions have now won seven straight games and are currently ranked fifth in 4A.

Cottage Grove Cross-Country

Last Saturday, both teams competed at the Paul Mariman Invitational in Philomath.

Siuslaw won the meet with 60 points but the Lions took second with 110 just edging out Philomath who finished with 111 points.

Leading the way for the Lions was Konrad Raum who took third in a time of 17:03 which beats his previous season best time by 50 seconds. Right behind Raum was Jimmy Talley in sixth place. Paesen Timm (22nd), Jesse Ellingworth (33rd) and Eric Cortes (54th) rounded out the top five.

The girls did not have a full team in the meet but ran four runners. Stella Sobotkova led the team in 49th place. She was followed by Rhea Florez, Lizbeth Zarate-Hernandez and Kenzie Parsons in 56th, 58th and 59th place respectively.

North Douglas Volleyball (22-5)

The Warriors continued their league dominance last week defeating Camas Valley in straight sets and then edging out Days Creek 3-2. The team has now moved to 10-0 in league play and are ranked number one in 1A. 

Yoncalla Volleyball (3-11)

The Eagles lost three games at home last week falling to Mohawk 3-1, New Hope Christian 3-1 and were swept by Elkton.

Elkton Volleyball (15-5)

The Elks had just one game last week. They defeated Yoncalla on the road in straight sets. The team is now third in league play.
