A look at the busy week of high school sports in the area

Cottage Grove Swimming

The Lions boys and girls teams took third out of three teams last Friday. Cottage Grove’s Ethan Burleson won the 100 backstroke and the 200 IM for the Lions.

Cottage Grove Boys Basketball

The Lions defeated South Umpqua 92-44 last Tuesday.

Cottage Grove Girls Basketball

Led by Reilly Kelty’s 14 points, eight rebounds and three blocks the Lions defeated South Umpqua 55-40.

North Douglas Boys Basketball

With a pair of free throw makes by Kyle Bowen in the final seconds of the game, the Warriors defeated Umpqua Valley Christian 33-31 on Friday night. On Saturday, Koldan Frieze’s 23 points pushed the team past Camas Valley 73-54.

North Douglas Girls Basketball

Holding Umpqua Valley Christian to just one point in the first half, the Warriors defeated the Monarchs 56-12 on Friday night. Abby Whipple led the way with 17 points. On Saturday, the Warriors defeated came away with 22 steals as they beat Camas Valley 60-14. Nicki Derrick had 16 points, five steals and four assists.

Elkton Boys Basketball

The Elks defeated Powers 36-33 on Friday behind Brad Doudna’s 19 points and 11 rebounds. Elkton defeated Umpqua Valley Christian on Saturday 60-56. Austin Luzier had 20 points while Doudna added 14 points and 16 boards.

Elkton Girls Basketball

Hannah Maxwell’s 19 points and nine rebounds helped push the Elks past Powers 47-12. The Cruisers were held to one point in the first half. On Saturday, Elkton pushed past Umpqua Valley Christian 60-13.

Yoncalla Boys Basketball

Despite a Bryan Allen three-pointer at the end of regulation, the Eagles lost in overtime to New Hope Christian 57-50 on Friday.

Yoncalla Girls Basketball

The Eagles fell to New Hope Christian 41-29 on Friday night.
