A look back at the busy week of high school sports in the area

North Douglas Volleyball

In the 1A volleyball State Championship, the Warriors were upset by Joseph in the quarterfinals. Joseph won in straight sets 25-22, 25-21, 25-17.

In the consolation round, North Douglas then defeated Days Creek in straight sets 25-17, 25-19, 25-19. It was the fourth time the teams had faced each other this season. North Douglas won the two regular season meetings and Days Creek won in the conference tournament.

The Warriors then faced South Wasco County in the fourth place game and after losing the first set 25-16, went on to win the next three 25-20, 25-29, 25-21.

Arianna Helgren was named to the second team of the all-tournament team.

North Douglas Football

On the road at Hosanna Christian, the Warriors were defeated 50-12 in their first round playoff game. North Douglas scored their two touchdowns in the fourth quarter off of a Jake Gerrard 66-yard reception and a 51-yard rush from Gerardo Alcantar.

The game was JJ Mast’s last game as head coach.

Elkton Fotoball

The Elks hosted Wallowa on Saturday in the first round of the playoffs and lost 44-6. Elkton, a team focused on the run, was shut down on the ground and forced to try to go through the air. Quarterback Austin Luzier ended the game 10 of 21 for 85 yards passing.

Elkton’s Trentyn Halstead scored Elkton’s only touchdown of the game in the second quarter on a seven yard run.

Yoncalla Fotoball

The Eagles season came to an end after they lost on the road to top ranked Triad 70-22. Yoncalla gained 390 yards on the day and gave up 594 rushing yards during the game.
