A renaissance man in every way, Kenneth Walter Johnson passed away on Sunday, September 5th, 2021 peacefully, but unexpectedly. He was 62.
Kenneth was born on January 17, 1959 to Leonard and Arlene Johnson in Cottage Grove, Oregon. He married Suzanne Hansen in 1977 and they raised three children, Stephanie, Crystal, and Aaron. He stayed in Cottage Grove until 2003 before finishing his firefighting career in the Medford area, and retiring in LaPine, Oregon.
A man of many talents and hobbies, Ken loved all aspects of life. Throughout his entire life he was an avid hunter, dedicated fisherman, and embraced every chance he could to go camping. His lifelong love of music and playing the guitar blossomed into a part-time hobby during his retirement years and he played music for various venues. In retirement, he discovered his talent for wood carving, and won many awards for his fish-carvings. A true family man, his best talent and skills was the dedication and drive he put into nurturing all the relationships around him. Ken was a dependable weekly phone call for his family and friends, and he never hesitated to be available whether someone needed a truck to move something, a shoulder to cry on, or someone to listen when things got hard.
In addition to Suzanne and their three children, Ken is survived by his brother, Kevin Johnson, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Roger Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at Aspen Hall, 18920 NW Shevlin Park Road in Bend, Oregon on Saturday, October 2nd at 1pm. The family is looking forward to honoring Ken’s love of life through stories, and music.
