Laurette Jean "Sid" Jones, 92, of Cottage Grove, died Nov. 21, 2018. Shewas born to Elva Isabella (Marrs) and Robert Cleveland Gambill on Dec. 2, 1925 at her Aunt Laura's home near where she grew up in Coast Fork/Pleasant Hill, Oregon. She attended school in Pleasant Hill until mid-high school when she moved into Eugene to attend and graduate from Eugene High School.
On May 29, 1947 in Klamath Falls, Oregon, she and Merle Howard Williams were married. The couple lived a short time at Coast Fork, then moved to Springfield. They had three boys: Lloyd Leonard, Gary Lynn and Larry Earl. Merle passed away on June 3, 1973.
On April 24, 1976, she and Claude Everett Jones were married at the home of her son, Gary. Claude passed away on July 17, 2007.
As a young woman before she married, she was employed at the Eugene Cannery and at Chase Gardens. After marrying, she worked for several years at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene. In 1955 when the family moved to Cottage Grove, she worked at the Cottage Grove Hospital for nearly 25 years as a nursing assistant. After Merle died, she worked a short while at a couple nursing facilities in Eugene. After marrying Claude, she operated a day care facility in her home for many years.
She and Claude got to travel for several years in their 5th wheel, throughout Alaska and the Southwest. She particularly liked just driving mountain roads and seeing wildflowers and birds, almost all of which she knew the names of. After meeting at a spouse bereavement group in 2007, she and her newfound friend Elaine Weimer had many fun times together going to garage sales, eating dinner out, going to exercise class and sharing stories about their dogs. Sid was a member of Old Time Gospel Fellowship in Cottage Grove.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, and two brothers, Robert Elton Gambill in 1986 and Ronald Wayne Gambill in 1988.
Survivors include her sons and their wives, Lloyd and Carla Williams, Gary and Debbie Williams, and Larry and Theresa Williams, step-son Charles and wife Linda Jones, grandchildren, Jesse Williams, Jeffrey Williams, Jacob and wife Amanda Williams, Kaysie Angeletta, step-grandchildren, Kenneth Jones, Charity and husband John Ode, daughter-in-law Peggy Williams, and several nieces and nephews.
