Lavona Marie Duerst, 87 of Cottage Grove, OR passed July 31, 2018. She was born on Jan. 5, 1931 in Boydsville, AR to parents Edwin and Lula (Shannon) Vinson. She graduated from Corning, Arkansas High School. Lavona married Roy Arnold Duerst June 12, 1994 in Cottage Grove, OR. She worked for more than 20 years as a lunch lady and custodian for South Lane School District, where she retired in 1995. Lavona enjoyed traveling the world, going to Australia, Germany, France, Norway England, Japan, Korea and Hawaii. She like bowling, painting, quilting, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Lavona had a beautiful voice and liked to sing. She is survived by daughter, Donna Miller (Richard) of Cottage Grove, OR; son Gerald Hollis (Marla) of Bend, OR; son Joseph Wolfard (Suk) of S. Korea; daughter, Marlee Richardson (David), Veneta, OR; Stepsons, Jon, Neil, Craig, Dana Duerst; stepdaughters, Kathy Berger, Ann Robinson; 22 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by son, James Curtis Wolfard, grandson, Scott Edward Bangle and great-granddaughter Sammy Jo Bangle. A visitation was held Monday, Aug. 6 at 9 a.m. at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, followed by Funeral Service at 11 a.m. and burial at Brumbaugh Cemetery. A reception will be held 34041 Allen Rd., Cottage Grove, OR.
