Lawrence Hird died on October 5, 2019 at the age of 91. He was born July 18, 1928 in Chehalis, Washington. He moved to Oregon in 1941, graduating from Cottage Grove High in 1946. He married the love of his life, Irene Gerstner in June of 1948 and proceeded to build their own home in Dorena, OR., where they have lived for 70 happy years. He was a loving, kind, hardworking man of many talents including mechanics, electrician, inventor, and teacher. He retired from Bohemia Sawmill after 20 years as millwright. He enjoyed many hobbies, crafting clocks, tables, metal work and yard art. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends to classic car shows in his 1950 Mercury. He is survived by his wife Irene of 71 years, daughters Laura Gilbertson (Alvan), Shelly Fuller (Rick); Sons Vance Hird (Marilyn), Wesley Hird (Debra); brothers Glenn Hird (Sandi), Gary Hird; four grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Lawrence Hird and Euphemia (Amy) Hird, infant son Wayne, Sister Shirley Miller and sister in law Gerri Hird.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at the Masonic Lodge in Cottage Grove, October 26^th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lawrence’s memory can be made to PeaceHealth Cottage Grove Community Medical Center Foundation.
