Leon Walther Loyd


Leon Walther Loyd of Cottage Grove died December 26, 2021, at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on January 15, 2021 at 1:00pm at the Riverside Church of God 1225 S. River Rd. in Cottage Grove.

Leon was born September 3, 1934 in Garvin County, OK to Orvil Loyd and Delcie (Colley) Loyd. He Spent his early childhood in Hatfield, AK before moving to Cottage Grove in 1948.

Leon was married to Sandra Cook on June 14, 1959, in Point Arena, CA. Leon worked in the lumber industry and retired from Weyerhaeuser in 1996 after 31 years.

Leon loved being outdoors and working with his hands. He loved starting new plants and gardening. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

Leon’s faith and love for God was evident in many practical ways. Whether in his personal vehicle or driving the church bus, he helped provide transportation for children and families to attend church. He supported many church building maintenance projects over the years and served as an Elder.

Leon worked hard, has a contagious laugh and remained steady throughout the challenges of life. You would often hear him say, “God will take care of us.”

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Sandra and their 4 sons: Randy (Sandy) Loyd; Jeff (bobby) Loyd; Monte (Janelle) Loyd; Chad Loyd (Christophe); grandsons Matthew (Alyssa) Loyd; Trevor (Emily) Loyd; Andrew (Kelsy) Loyd; Jeremiah (Jessica) Loyd; granddaughters Blaecleah, Hannah, Kelsey; great grandchildren Eisley, Case, Jeremy; sisters Jolene Ferrell and Delores Quinn and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by patterns Orvil and Delcie Loyd, sisters Marquita Walston and Shirley Chandler.
