Leslie George Rhodes of Cottage Grove died on November 4 at the age of 93. He was born on October 19, 1924 in Long Beach, CA to parents George Lawrence and Eleanor Anastasia (Barry) Rhodes. He graduated from Beverly Hills High School. He served in the US Coast Guard during WW II followed by serving in the United States Navy Reserve. Leslie married Bonnie Lou Eves on January 8, 1949 in California. He worked as a roofer, and he and Bonnie were grocery stores owners. He was an entrepreneur with many real estate ventures. Leslie supported multiple children’s charities, enjoyed golf and travel in Europe and was a gifted artist. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren. While all of Les’s grandsons were U of O Duck fans, Les was an OR State Beaver believer. He was a member of the Men’s Club at the Middlefield Golf course, and he was a member of the Teamsters Union. Les is survived by daughter Ardis (Lee) Walker of Yoncalla, OR; son, Leslie Scott (Sandy) Rhodes of Sacramento, CA; daughter, Pamela Strickland of Cottage Grove, OR; daughter, Peggy Rhodes of Eugene, OR; 11 grandchildren: Tony Humble, Dean Humble, Brian Humble, Jaime Jackson, Leslie Rian Rhodes, Shaun Rhodes, Nicholas Smith, Brett Smith, Stephany Pescarolo, Crystal Wardell, Michael Leslie Dollar; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie Rhodes. A Celebration of Life Open House will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Les’s home in Cottage Grove.
