LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Kudos to local Veterans of Foreign Wars

This week, a nice, polite lady from the local chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars stopped by our house and presented us with a beautiful, framed certificate of appreciation in recognition of us flying the American flag in front of our house. We were pleasantly surprised and honored to receive this recognition award.

She also presented this award to another four households on our small cul-de-sac for flying their American flags. She also mentioned that if our flag gets older we can receive a new flag from the organization upon turning in the old one.

It was really appreciated and made our day! Following the proper flag etiquette, our flag is lit during the night via an automatically operated photo eye, 24-7, 365 days a year. Ours in on a 25-foot pole, flying high for the last 32 years.

As Eastern - Europeans and now very proud American citizens we understand what this flag represents.
