Lions compete at state


Over the weekend, Cottage Grove had athletes competing at state in both swimming and cheer.

The swim team saw three individuals qualify for the state meet that took place at the Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center in Beaverton last Saturday. For the girls it was MJ Raade while the Cottage Grove boys were represented by Ian Dukes and James Kelly.

In prelims on Friday, Raade took 11th place in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:47.39.

On the boys side, Dukes took 8th in both the 100-yard breaststroke prelims, in a time of 1:06.42, and the 500-yard freestyle, in a time of 5:20.82. Kelly was 12th in prelims in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:38.95.

The Cottage Grove cheer team finished in 6th place as a team over the weekend while they were competing at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland. The team recorded 151.20 points finishing with 51.80 in building skills, 51.40 in tumbling/jumps and 49.00 in overall routine.
