On Thursday, June 3, the Lions hosted Siuslaw High School at home. Although Cottage Grove started with a great deal of energy, they unfortunately fell to the Vikings 53-46.
Cottage Grove came out strong early in the game, and by the end of the first quarter, led 17-10. Brennen Murphy scored 6 points in the first quarter alone.
In the second quarter, Ty Kishen led in scoring with 6 points of his own, and by the half, the Lions were up 28-18.
However, coming back after the half, the Viks seemed to have a new-found energy, and managed to score 18 points in the 3rd quarter, doubling their score before the half. They were able to hold the Lions to 7 points that quarter, taking the lead by the end of the third, 36-35.
Although Sy Williams was able to score 8 of Cottage Grove’s 11 points in the fourth quarter, 6 coming from three-pointers, the Lions were unable to take the momentum back. The Vikings continued to push on, scoring 17 points in the final quarter of the game, and winning 53-46 in the end.
The Lions also fell to Marshfield at home on Saturday, June 5, 44-61. They played at Elmira on Tuesday, June 8 after printing deadlines, and they play again at home tonight against Junction City at 7:15 p.m.
