Lions, Warriors, and Bulldogs head to Nick Lutz Memorial Wrestling tournament

Results from the Saturday afternoon showdown

Wrestling teams from Cottage Grove as well as Creswell and North Douglas traveled over to the coast to participate in the Nick Lutz Memorial wrestling tournament, held in Florence. Boys’ wrestlers of note included sophomore Lyosha Mitchell (113 lbs.) of Creswell, who finished third over Steven Dewees of Amity. Juinor Seazar Ibarra (120 lbs.) of Cottage Grove also took third place after defeating Josue Estrada of Newport. Also shinning for the Lions was sophomore Carter Bengtson (138 lbs.), who got second place. Cottage Grove freshman Jayden Davis (145 lbs.) finished sixth overall, while fellow Lion Malaky Barr (170 lbs.) tied for sixth with Louie Orana of Siletz Valley after a DFF. Cottage Grove’s Daniel Hernandez (220 lbs.) finished third in his class after defeating Churchill’s Ashton Daily. The Lions’ Nathan Abrams (285 lbs.) tied for fourth place with Zane Clemmer of Elmira after a DFF.

As a team, the Cottage Grove boys’ finished fifth out of 25 participating teams with 113.5 points. Creswell finished 17th with 39.0 points, and North Douglas finished 23rd with 4 points. 

On the girls’ side, the Lions Allison Palluck (115 lbs.) had a big day and took first place over Zoey Howard from Siletz Valley. Chantell Noffsinger of Creswell (140 lbs.) also took first place over Katarina Jentzsch of Elmira. Also in the 140 class, Mariam Vanderpool (140 lbs.) of North Douglas finished fourth. Creswell’s Jennalyn Kruger (130 lbs.) took third place over North Bends Baylee Adams. Cottage Grove’s Madison Holder (135 lbs.) finished fourth behind Danin Lacouture of Siuslaw, while Alexus Williamson (170) of Creswell finished fourth. 

As a team the Creswell girls’ finished 4th out of 17 teams with 51 points. Cottage Grove finished 7th with 27 points. North Douglas finished 14th with 8 points.
