LMS wrestling takes third at regional tournament

The success of wrestling in the local area begins with the athletes at Cottage Grove High School, but it certainly doesn’t stop there.

Lincoln Middle School wrestling capped off their campaign for the 2019-20 season on Saturday, February 8. The Tigers made the short jaunt to Creswell High School for the Valley League District Tournament. Fifteen grapplers qualified for the competition via the South Regionals the weekend before, where the Tigers took home a third-place team finish.

Carter Bengtson (104-pound) was the highest placer of the team with a second-place medal in his weight class. Jeffery Conklin (70), Seazar Ibarra (74), Micah Spear (136), Rogelio Soto-Cruz (187) and Zane White (265) were the five individuals to receive third-place awards.  Nathan Abrams (265) was the lone fourth-place finisher on the team.

For the second year in a row, the Tigers placed at the district tournament and brought home a fourth-place trophy out of the 16 total teams in the Valley League.

This Saturday, Feb. 15 the team will be hosting a fundraiser at the Cottage Grove Armory from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  The event is being billed as a Daddy/Daughter Dance and Mother/Son Video Game Tournament.  It is a great way to spend time with the family and support a great cause.  Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for kids.  Concessions will be available for purchase.
