LTC Robert Busill Tully Jr., USA, Retired, passed away on November 17th, 2022 surrounded by his family in their Cottage Grove, OR home.
Born to a proud military family in Kentucky 1950 and, following family tradition, Bob graduated from United States Military Academy, West Point in 1973. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Army where he honorably served his country for the next 20 years, including tours in Panama, Alaska, Germany and in the 1st Gulf War. He also earned a Master’s in Finance Management from the Naval Post Graduate School. It was at Ft. Benning, GA that he met his wife of 44 years LTC Patricia Galeher Tully USA, RET. Bob and Tricia had three children. After retiring from the military Bob earned an MBA from the University of Oregon and settled in Cottage Grove, OR.
Bob was active in the Cottage Grove community; he served on the South Lane School District Finance Advisory Committee; an Administrative Finance Council Chair at Our Lady of Perpetual Catholic Church for 10 years; was a fund raiser for the Cottage Grove Family Relief Nursery; taught safety hunting classes to name a few.
Those who knew Bob knew he was happiest on a trout stream, fly rod in hand. An avid reader and outdoorsman, Bob enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, family and friends to pursue his passion for hunting and history. A quiet man, he will be remembered for his insightful and intelligent conversations and the deep & lasting friendships he built throughout his many adventures. His life was full of wonderful stories, and he will be greatly missed by those who got to make those stories with him.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, his children Robert, Carolyn, Emily, granddaughter Lauren and his 3 siblings, Charles Tully, Michael Tully, and Elizabeth (Betsy) Simoff. A memorial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on January 27rd, 2023. Internment will be at Willamette National Cemetery on January 30, 2023.
