May 14, 1940 - July 28, 2022

Margaret Elizabeth “Margie” Nousen passed away July 28, 2022 at the age of 82.

Margaret was the daughter of Berton and Esther (Evenson) Land born on May 14, 1940 in San Francisco, California.

Margie moved to Cottage Grove as a child. She graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1958 and married John Crockett in 1959. They attended college in Philadelphia and then returned to Oregon where their son Andy was born. Soon after they went to New Zealand.

Margie and John divorced in 1963 and she and Andy returned to Oregon where she completed her teaching degree. She began her teaching career at Blue Mountain School.

She married Terrance Nousen in 1965 and soon after settled in Hillsboro where their two daughters Gretchen and Greta were born.

Margie taught school at Harvey Clarke Elementary in Forest Grove for 31 years. She loved teaching third grade, especially reading and arts and crafts. Perhaps her crowning achievement was a life-size paper maché pteranodon that hung from the classroom ceiling.

Margie retired in 1998. She and Terry moved to Yoncalla, Oregon where they built their dream home which they enjoyed for many years before health concerns prompted a move to Washington to live with their daughter.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Terry and brother Charles. She is survived by her twin brother Berton Land, brother-in-law Tim Nousen, and three children: Andy Nousen and wife Karen, Gretchen Nousen and fiancé Ryan Brown, and Greta Palmer and husband Derick. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Libby Nousen and husband Sal Liotta, Hannah Poellinger and husband James, Liam, Lily, Lucy, Elkie, and Laurel Palmer.

Margie was dearly loved by her family and will be missed by everyone who was fortunate to have known her.

A memorial service will be held August 20 in Marysville. Condolences may be sent to 3325 NW Gumwood Ave, Corvallis, OR 97330. If you wish to make a donation in Margie’s memory, please consider something that supports reading, students, or teachers.
