New Eugene Springfield Fire Chief announced

Eugene Springfield Fire has recently announced that Michael A. Caven has been selected to serve as Eugene Springfield Fire’s next Fire Chief. Caven has more than 20 years of experience in fire and emergency medical service and has worked with Eugene Springfield Fire since 2007, serving in a variety of positions including Battalion Chief, Captain, Deputy Chief of Operations, Firefighter/Paramedic, Engineer, Instructor and more.

Eugene City Manager Sarah Medary and Springfield City Manager Nancy Newton selected Caven, noting that Caven was the cqandidate with the expertise and innovation to lead the department into the future. “Mike’s depth of knowledge and his focus on developing relationships is ideal for the department’s future and for meeting the changing needs of our growing communities,” said City Manager, Nancy Newton.

“Mike’s creativity and innovative spirit have already helped shape Eugene Springfield Fire into the excellent organization it is. His experience and knowledge combined with his love of this community and department is a compelling and exciting recipe for success. I couldn’t be happier to introduce our new Chief,” said Eugene City Manager Sarah Medary.

Caven was one of three finalists interviewed for the role after a national search and has been a resident of Cottage Grove for the last 20 years. He is also the owner and operator of a small batch chocolate shop, Sanity Chocolate, which is also located in Cottage Grove and open on Saturday with limited hours.
