Oregon State Trooper sustains non life-threatening injuries after being shot

An unidentified Oregon State Trooper was shot on Tuesday afternoon after attempting to make contact with the occupant of a stolen vehicle according to Oregon State Police. The officer received non life-threatening injuries. 
At approximately 1:20 p.m. the officer conducted a traffic stop near Hwy. 99 and England Rd. in Crewell. "After a brief encounter, the suspect shot and hit the trooper," a statement released by the Oregon State Police read. The trooper was transported from the scene in an ambulance.
The trooper was reportedly able to return fire but authorities do not believe the suspect was hit.
The suspect's car was reportedly located abandoned on Saginaw Rd. near milepost 1. 
Cottage Grove PD, Homeland Security, Oregon State Police and numerous law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.
Authorities report that a person of interest is in custody and they do not believe there to be a threat to the community.
"Lane County Sheriff's Office has been designated as the lead investigating agency for this incident," the statement read.
