November 2 - Kids and adults lined up for the "Pack the Park'' fundraiser at Bohemia Park last week on Oct. 23. Organizers of the event are working to improve the existing skate facility or build an entirely new state of the art place for kids to ride all wheeled sports, whether it’s skateboards, scooters, BMX or inline skates.

Right now, organizers are building the network for the project, forming bonds and relationships with those interested in the plan, seeking input from the community, and getting letters of support from residents as they proceed with their vision. The event, the second, took place at Bohemia Park so the kids would have more room to ride and do tricks and competitions.

Organizer Dana Merryday said, “It worked great. We borrowed ramps for various sources, and had sponsors and giveaways. Duane Taddei was there making tacos, Kevin Worley donated his DJ services, CG Police was there with helmet giveaways and safety tips.”

Also in attendance were City Councilor Greg Ervin and other advocates, such as Mayor Jeff Gowing.

The Friends of Cottage Grove Skatepark Facebook page has almost 200 members. People who like to ride, skate or BMX are invite them to join the group to help improve opportunities for Cottage Grove youth.
