Peter Howell

Peter Joseph Howell, of Oregon City, OR, passed away from complications of a brain tumor on June 1, 2018 at the age of 35.

Peter was born to Gerald and Barbara Howell on September 22, 1982 in Cottage Grove, OR and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on March 8, 1997. He graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 2001 and graduated with a Bachelor of Business from the University of Oregon in 2007. In 2009 he moved to Portland, OR where he met his future wife, Monica Garrett and they were married April 6, 2013. Peter began working for DE-El Enterprises in 2009 and successfully opened the Portland branch.

Peter served as an elder in the Russian language congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He spent 10 years averaging 70 hours or more a month teaching others about the Bible, a vocation he treasured and took seriously. He also enjoyed traveling and meeting his fellow Witnesses from around the world, visiting over 15 countries.

Peter was a devoted husband who loved people, laughing and the outdoors. He loved hiking in the Northwest wilderness, swimming and scuba diving and trying his hand at fly fishing. Due to his faith, he made an earnest effort to make a difference in other people’s lives and did not allow his illness to define him.

Peter is survived by his wife Monica; his parents Gerald and Barbara; his siblings Todd, Louis, Keevan, Robert and Sally.

Peter’s memorial will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3516 SE 74th Ave, Portland, OR 97206, on Saturday, June 16 at 5 p.m. with a reception to follow at the Brentwood Darlington Community Center, 7211 SE 62nd Ave, Portland, OR 97206.
