Robert G. Lefty “Bob” Woolcott

Robert G. Lefty “Bob” Woolcott, 97 of Cottage Grove, Oregon, passed away January 30, 2019. He was born in Cottage Grove, Oregon on February 20, 1921 to parents Arthur and Marion (Wright) Woolcott His mother was a Titanic Survivor. Bob graduated from Cottage Grove High School and Air Force Officers School. He was stationed in Corsica, while serving in WWII as an Air Force Captain. He was head sawyer at Woodard Mill and Weyerhaeuser where he retired. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He especially enjoyed dahlias. Bob was a kind and humble man of few words, always willing to help those in need. He came home safely after serving as an Air Force Captain in WWII. Before Bob and his two brothers were off to serve in the war, his mother Marion Wright Woolcott, made Bible covers for them cut out of the wool coat that saved her life as a Titanic survivor. She believed that it was divine intervention that all three of her sons returned home safely after serving as officers in WWII. That coat is now on display at the National Geographic Museum. Bob’s legacy lives on in his family, loved ones and the many lives he touched. He will be greatly missed. Bob was a member of the Elks lodge and Masons. And has many military medals. Bob is survived by his spouse Ellie Palmer of Cottage Grove, OR; son Steven (Sue) Woolcott of Eugene, OR; grandsons Brandon and Jeffrey Woolcott of Eugene, OR; granddaughter Tiffanie Woocott of Eugene, OR; and 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brothers John and Russell Woolcott. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 16 at 2:00 PM at the Riverside Church of God in Cottage Grove, OR.
