Outdoor School

Parent reported that the school district received all of the outdoor school dollars that they requested. Bohemia, which has been without an outdoor school program, will have one this year and was allocated $13,925. Harrison received $18,435 and Dorena, London and Latham which do their outdoor school together received $4,315, $4,290 and $3,570 respectively.

“This year, all of our kids will get this experience,” said Parent.

ALICE Training 

Last Monday, during a South Lane inservice day, 350 individuals from the school district met at Cottage Grove High School to go through Alert Lockdown Inform Counter Evacuate (ALICE) training that deals with what to do in the event of a school shooting. 

Officers from the Cottage Grove Police Department, Lane County Sherriff’s Office, Eugene Police Department, Springfield Police Department and a couple of civilian trainers led the groups through a morning and afternoon session.

“It’s a fantastic training, it’s really sad to do it but I think it makes the issue real to our staff and I guess, the next step is we teach kids how to stay alive,” said school board member Jerry Settelmeyer. 

Teacher of the Year

Lincoln Middle School's Pat Ware and Harrison Elementary teacher Sarah Drew will be honored during the Chamber of Commerce banquet later this month for their achievements during the 2016-2017 school year and over the course of their careers in South Lane School District. Ware mans the Lion Pride Room at Lincoln meant to give students the opportunity to talk through their problems while Drew was commended on her committment to students.
