Sella Libby

Sella J. Libby passed away peacefully on July 7, 2019 from complications of a stroke. She was born April 12, 1942 in Gonbong, Java, Indonesia to Johennes and Pauline Visser and was Dutch-Indonesian. She and her family were prisoners of war until they were rescued at the end of World War II by the Americans. Her family immigrated to the Netherlands in 1954 and to the United States in 1961.
Sella enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962-1968. She became a naturalized citizen in Biloxi, Mississippi on Aug. 30, 1966. She married Maurice Libby, October 15, 1966 and in 1968 retired as a Staff Sgt. to raise her children. Later, she worked in civil service positions as an Administrative Specialist for the Air Force until 2002. She and Maurice moved to Cottage Grove in 2009.
Sella was known to give lovingly and tirelessly of herself to help others in so many ways—especially her family. She served many as a church deacon; volunteered at Beds for Freezing Nights, The Humane Society, Soups On and more.
Sella is survived by her husband Maurice, son David, Bountiful, Utah; daughter Sandra Spears, Redding, CA, brother Paul Visser, H.B. CA and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Cottage Grove, 216 S. 3rdSt., C.G. on August 3, 2019 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Humane Society.
