Shirley Jean Raymond

Shirley Jean Raymond passed away of cancer May 15, 2019 at home in Cottage Grove, OR. She was 91 years old. Shirley was the daughter of Frank and Grace LaBlue and was born at Hebron, just outside Cottage Grove. On August 3, 1946 she married Howard Raymond in Bremerton, WA and they lived in Cottage Grove for over 60 years. Shirley was employed locally from 1961-1973 working as a school secretary at SLSD and Weyerhaueser Co., as an inventory clerk and then at the C.G. Police Department as a dispatcher. She was also a volunteer and was appointed to many committees and commissions over the years. She was appointed by the Lane County Commissioners to serve on the Lane County's Committee for Seniors. She was appointed by Governor Hatfield to serve on the Governors Committee for Children and Youth. She was also on The Lane County Road Advisory Committee, The City of Cottage Grove Budget Committee for 8 years and helped to establish the Teen Beat Organization (a club for teenagers), a first in Cottage Grove. She volunteered for many committees for the senior citizens including the local Hot Wheels and helped to set up the first transportation program for Senior Wheels. Her interest in politics led her to help several local candidates with their campaigns and later became Interim Secretary for Peg Jolin, a State Representative/State Senator until her retirement in 1991. Shirley enjoyed God's gift of Oregon's beautiful outdoors, friends and family, camping, fishing, hunting, chopping wood, (Yes-a true Oregonian).

Shirley is survived by a daughter, Sherry Susanne Goodrick of Cottage Grove, a sister, Judy Cummings of Cottage Grove. 4 Grandchildren; Kellie Lamb, Stevianne Cook, Richard (Butch) Goodrick.  5 Great-Grandchildren; Shannon, Holly, Adam, Chelsea, Jordan; 4 Great Great-Grandchildren; Shailee, Mariah, Aaliyah and Jaxson. 1 Great Great Great Granddaughter - Kyle (Keke). What an honor to have 6 generations, all girls! Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Howard in 2006 and a son, Steve in 2009. As a member of Riverside Community Church of God, Shirley leaves many special friends and acquaintances in the congregation. Proverbs 3:5 and 6. Services to be held June 15th at 1:00 at the Riverside Community Church of God.
