Steve Eastburn has been named the new Cottage Grove girls basketball coach, replacing former head coach, Kevin Yoss.
The announcement was made late Friday afternoon.
“We are so excited to get a coach of Steve’s experience and background,” athletic director Gary Roberts said in a press release announcing the new hire. “He has had a lot of success coaching basketball at different levels in Oregon. He has show tremendous leadership and ability in building a successful program and helping kids develop into great players,” he added, noting that he was “excited” about Eastburn’s plan for the team.
Eastburn, who most recently coached at Crow High School, spent a year a Marist High School and was head coach at South Eugene for eight years where he led the program to four straight state tournaments.
Yoss stepped down from his head coaching position at Cottage Grove three weeks ago telling The Sentinel at the time, “This can be a difficult job that you are required to do a lot more than basketball. If it was only basketball and that was all I had to deal with, I would be back,” he said. “I would say the big things are fundraising and time away from your family. And I will end it there for right now.”
