In their previous matchup against Junction City, the Lady Lions basketball team gave the Tigers a scare until the last two minutes when Junction City eventually pulled away.

This go-round wouldn’t see as much drama as the home Tigers took control in the first half and never relinquished their lead and finished out the game with a 41-26 win over Cottage Grove.

Gracie Arnold started the game strong for the Lions, scoring the first five Cottage Grove points as they led 7-3 in the first three minutes of the game. Later in the first quarter, Junction City’s full-court pressure slowed down the Lions’ offense and Junction City was able to take a lead at the end of the quarter 9-7.

The Tigers opened up their lead to start the second quarter going on a 14-0 scoring run in the first six minutes while Cottage Grove’s first points didn’t come until near two minutes left in the half. Halle Degarlais scored off an offensive rebound for the Lions who only scored five points in the second quarter and found themselves down at halftime 29-12.

Cottage Grove came out of the break and slowed down the tempo holding the ball for long stretches and trying to limit Junction City possessions.

Despite getting some good looks at the basket, the struggles on offense continued for Cottage Grove who only amassed five points in the third quarter and were down 31-17 at the end of the third.

In the final quarter, Junction City was able to go into cruise control having a comfortable cushion and putting the Lions away 41-26.

In the final week of the regular season, the Lady Lions will have faced Marist on Feb. 15 followed by the season finale against Siuslaw on Feb. 18 at 5:45 which will be senior night.
