Virgil Clay Parker Jr. passed away on March 29, 2023.

Virgil Clay Parker Jr., 85, passed away March 29, 2023 of coronary heart disease. Virgil was born December 1, 1937 in Yakima, Washington to parents Virgil Clay Sr. and Emma (McHenry) Parker. Virgil received his bachelor’s degree in civil service. He served in the United States Navy. Virgil married Janis Defoe May 28, 1994 in Reno, Nevada. Virgil drove truck for Richmond Oil, and for Sherman Brothers & Leavitts Freight. He served as police officer in Pittsburg and Concord, CA, and served as a Sheriff with Lane County Sheriff’s Office. Virgil loved to travel; his last big trip was a two-week cruise to Hawaii. Janis and Virgil bought a travel trailer and went to Utah, Yellowstone Montana and Wyoming. Virgil was a member of the Elks Lodge, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife of 29 years Janis Parker, daughter Darleen Bennet of CA; daughter Doreen Parker of CA; son Devin Parker of Eugene, OR; son Robert Parker of Eugene, OR; daughter Lisa Gynes; sister Jeannie Carlson of AZ; and 3 grandchildren. A service will be held at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove, OR, Friday, April 7,2023 at 1pm. Arrangements are in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.
